SIR Bernard Ingham refused to apologise to Liverpool fans this morning after an inquest into the deaths of 96 fans at Hillsborough emphatically cleared supporters of any wrongdoing.
Speaking to a reporter from the Mirror at his home in Purley, Sir Bernard, Margaret Thatcher's former press secretary, said he was not willing to discuss the verdict.
A jury ruled that the 1989 tragedy which left 96 supporters dead was caused by the police and that the victims had been unlawfully killed.
