Almost 40 primary schools run by Croydon Council are operating in buildings containing potentially lethal asbestos.
Figures released after a Freedom of Information request have revealed that the cancer-causing substance is present in 39 schools and nurseries across the borough.
The reality is that even more Croydon schools could contain asbestos as it does not take into account those schools which are academies, as most secondary schools in the borough are.
