Friends of an amateur cyclist from a Croydon cycling club who died in a race in France have said he will be "sorely missed".Ian Bashford, 60, died after he was hit by a support vehicle which reportedly swerved into his path 200 metres from the finish line during the 35th staging of the elite Duo Normand competition.Mr Bashford, a retired Met police officer, has been described by his friends at Croydon and Bromley based club Old Portlians as a "fabulous character".
